SAN ANTONIO, TX (May 6, 2026)—Visit San Antonio joins destinations across the country in celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), recognizing the powerful role the travel industry plays in driving economic prosperity, strengthening communities and connecting people through shared experiences.
In San Antonio, tourism continues to be a cornerstone of the local economy, generating $23.4 billion in economic impact, supporting more than 150,000 jobs and fueling essential services through $284 million tax revenues that benefit residents across the city. Beyond the numbers, the industry plays a vital role in shaping San Antonio’s identity by elevating the city’s rich culture, heritage and historic culinary scene rooted in authentic Tex-Mex traditions.

Nationally, travel remains a critical driver of the U.S. economy. The industry supports approximately 15 million American jobs and generates nearly $3 trillion in economic output, reinforcing its role as an essential pillar of economic growth and workforce development.
Globally, travel and tourism contributed a record $11.6 trillion to the economy in 2025, accounting for nearly 10% of global GDP and outpacing overall economic growth.
Throughout the week, a series of events recognizing the individuals and businesses that power the industry will occur:
- Visit San Antonio Member Mixer – On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, industry professionals will gather at 1Watson at the AC Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk for an evening of networking, collaboration, and celebration of the sector’s impact. A City of San Antonio proclamation recognizing the impact of travel and tourism on the city’s economy will be acknowledged during the event.
- San Antonio Visitor Alliance NTTW Luncheon – On Thursday, May 7, 2026, the San Antonio Visitor Alliance will host its annual luncheon at The Buckhorn Saloon and Museum, bringing together industry leaders and stakeholders to celebrate the travel and tourism community and its contributions to the region’s continued growth and success.
- San Antonio Zoo Hospitality Appreciation Initiative – From May 4–10, 2026, the San Antonio Zoo will offer complimentary admission to Texas hospitality staff and discounted tickets for their guests, recognizing the essential role hospitality professionals play in delivering exceptional visitor experiences.
