Dear Colleagues,

Visit San Antonio is seeking passionate and qualified individuals to serve on its Board of Directors. As a 501(c)(6) organization, Visit San Antonio serves as the destination marketing organization for San Antonio and the surrounding areas, driving economic impact through tourism, conventions, and hospitality initiatives.

 

There are currently two (2) open board positions, in the following categories and commitments:

  • Leisure & Attractions (3-year term)
    • Open to individuals employed by or representing leisure, attractions, or visitor-serving organizations within the Visit San Antonio service area, including cultural institutions, museums, sports or entertainment venues, and similar attractions.
  • At-Large Representative (3-year term)
    • Open to individuals with demonstrated leadership experience and expertise relevant to Visit San Antonio’s mission, including tourism, hospitality, marketing, economic development, or related fields. At-Large representatives are selected to provide broad perspective and strategic insight to the Board of Directors.

 

Board members play a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of Visit San Antonio by:

  • Providing policy oversight and governance.
  • Advocating for the tourism and hospitality industry.
  • Offering strategic counsel to the President & CEO.
  • Engaging in board meetings and committees.
  • Supporting Visit San Antonio’s mission of "Bringing the world to San Antonio."

Qualifications for Board Members

We seek candidates who demonstrate:

  • Industry Expertise – Knowledge and experience in tourism, hospitality, marketing, or a related field.
  • Strategic Insight – Ability to contribute to long-term planning and decision-making.
  • Analytical & Leadership Skills – Strong decision-making and leadership capabilities.
  • Governance Experience – Understanding of board governance and best practices.
  • Ethical Leadership – Commitment to integrity and ethical decision-making.
  • Employer & Colleague Support – Ability to fulfill board responsibilities with professional backing.
  • Marketing Acumen (preferred but not required) – Understanding of marketing strategies and industry trends.

 

Expectations of Board Members

To maintain active and engaged leadership, board members are required to:

  • Attend Board Meetings
    • Participate in four board meetings per year (missing no more than two per fiscal year).
    • Engage in board discussions and decision-making processes.

 

  • Engage in Governance & Committees
    • Serve on at least one committee, task force, or advisory group.
    • Participate in board orientation and governance training.

 

  • Contribute to Visit San Antonio Initiatives
    • Attend the Summer Planning Session.
    • Review board and committee minutes.
    • Support Visit San Antonio’s Annual Meeting.
    • Attend Visit San Antonio-sponsored events and networking functions.

 

Application Process

To be considered for a board position, please submit the following materials electronically by Friday, February 20, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. CST:

  • Completed Official Application
  • Current Resume
  • Two to Three (2-3) Letters of Recommendation
  • Recent Headshot

 

After submission, the Nominating Committee will review applications and may conduct interviews the weeks of February 23 and March 2. The newly appointed board members will be announced in April 2026.
