The Communications Department recorded $1,436,244 in outer market earned media value from 26 outer market media placements logged in October, with the quantity and values still affected by the pandemic changes in media and travel. Coverage recorded for the month included Forbes, AAA World, Lonely Planet, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Zoe Report, KHOU-TV’s Great Day Houston, WFAA-TV’s Good Morning Texas, KDFW-TV’s Good Day, KEYE-TV’s We Are Austin, D Magazine, Texas Highways, Travel Pulse, Meetings Today; and Mexico’s El Universal, Milenio Noticias, Itinerario Turistico, La Aficion and Iñaki Alvarez (@inakialvarez).
The top media clips for October reflect the focus on two major stories for the month: Day of the Dead and the announcement of the course for San Antonio’s L’Etape by Tour de France. Day of the Dead coverage came as a result of concerted national and international pitching and received significant media and social media influencer attention including the month’s top clip from Forbes and regional coverage in the top feeder markets of Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin. With L’Etape by Tour de France, the focus was on driving Mexican coverage from the top sports outlets in the market to showcase not only L’Etape but also the fantastic outdoor and adventure experiences available in the market. The Visit San Antonio team was able to secure visits from the sports editors for two of the largest newspapers and multimedia companies – El Universal and Milenio – as well as one of the main hosts of national radio show Los 40 Principales who is also a significant social media influencer in sports, Iñaki Alvarez.
