The River Walk held its Mardi Gras weekend February 17-20 that included the Bud Light Mardi Gras River Parades on the Museum Reach and downtown and a festival at La Villita. They also held the Mardi Gras Artisan Show. Staff did many television spots to promote the weekend. The River Walk had 159,600 visits the entire weekend. Coronation for River Walk royalty was also held during the Mardi Gras festivities on February 18. The royalty court raised over $71,000 for VSA’s San Antonio Hospitality Foundation which provides scholarships for hospitality programs in local colleges. The Queen and King were chosen based upon the amount raised.
St. Patrick’s weekend was held March 17-19 and included the Bud Light St. Patrick’s River Parades on the Museum Reach and downtown and a festival at La Villita. In addition to dyeing the river green, the River Walk held the St. Patrick’s Artisan Show. Staff did many television spots to promote the weekend activities and River Dyeing. The River Walk had 155,400 visits the entire weekend.
The second quarterly issue (January - March) of Rio magazine was published and also promoted online. Around 25,000 free copies were printed and distributed at River Walk businesses and dwellings.
