April was another strong month of San Antonio media interest both in visiting media and resulting media coverage. The hallmark Fiesta celebrations, first-ever L’Etape San Antonio cycling event and a multi-city Mexico media mission were the top projects for the month.

April kicked off with the return of a full Fiesta schedule for the first time in three years. Visit San Antonio took full advantage of this storytelling opportunity to host nine national media to cover our city. Writers representing Conde Nast Traveler, National Geographic, The Daily Beast, Lonely Planet, TripSavvy, Business Traveler Magazine, Time Out, Chicago Parent, EDGE, Passport and The Daily Mail explore not just Fiesta celebrations but all that makes San Antonio special. Coverage already started running – be sure to check in next month for some of those stories.

The debut L’Etape San Antonio cycling event also occurred during the early April Fiesta dates. The international event drew thousands of locals and visitors to the northwest side of the city for fun and fitness. The event was of particular interest to our Mexican audience, with two of the largest Mexican national newspapers, El Universal and Milenio, along with sports broadcaster and celebrity social influencer Iñaki Alvarez providing extensive coverage of the event and of the outdoor adventure and entertainment opportunities in San Antonio.

At the end of April, the Media Relations & Communications team partnered with the Tourism Development department for our first multi-city Mexico Sales & Media Mission since 2019. The team traveled to Monterrey, Mexico City and Guadalajara for in-person meetings to remind our Mexican media partners that San Antonio remains a close and welcoming destination that has plenty of new and favorites for travelers to enjoy. More than two dozen media meetings during the week-long mission lead to productive conversations on media coverage and visits to come.

As the world slowly returns to a semblance of the pre-pandemic times, we aim for San Antonio to remain a destination-of-choice for millions of travelers each year. Please be sure to share with our Media Relations team what news you have for this summer and fall travel seasons, as well as any news upcoming for later in the year and into 2023 so we can help amplify your message.
