We continued our successful Show Us Your District Tours with District 7 and Councilwoman Ana Sandoval. The heart of the Deco District is in D7 and we were able to experience firsthand this incredible history and culture with her.

Stops along this tour included the iconic Janie’s Record Shop, The Original Donut Store, Joe’s Pancake House and Barrio Barista. While many of these legacy businesses are already well-known among locals and tourists, we look forward to including them in our ongoing marketing efforts.

During the month, we also partnered with San Antonio Mobility Coalition (SAMCo) on their TxDOT funding initiative. Many of our partners will be directly impacted by this construction and we wanted to ensure they were aware of the projects and the expected outcomes.

SAMCo was able to secure the funding necessary to complete several significant projects including the IH-10/Loop 1604, IH-35/Loop 1604, and Loop 410/IH-35 intersections. When completed, these major mix masters will provide for an ease of travel that will be a benefit to the critical drive market.

We were also asked by Rep. Ina Minjarez and Chairman Lyle Larson to assist with the planning and travel arrangements for the Texas House Redistricting Committee meeting that was held in September. This is the first time the committee has held a meeting outside of Austin and we used this visit to ensure they not only understand the importance of travel and tourism both in the city, but also to the state at large.

We want to thank our many partners who supported this important initiative, including the Westin Riverwalk, Go Rio, Boudro’s, VIA, Port San Antonio, Vulcan Materials, AT&T and Zachry Corporation.

During August, we presented our annual year in review and coming strategic planning initiatives to council. We highlighted the launch of Visit SA TV and the role each of them would play in highlighting the unique stories found within their districts.

Through Visit San Antonio TV, we will be able to reach into the community and highlight the authentic stories that make our city one of the top travel destinations in the country. We encourage you to submit your ideas here.

As always, we thank you for your ongoing support and efforts as we work to ensure the economic development, growth and impact of our industry is recognized and valued.
