Although we are in interim, we are busier than ever on the legislative front. At the state level, working with TTIA, we will be looking at strategies on how to best tackle the issue of protecting summers for our children in advance of the next legislative session.
On a local level, we have continued our Show Us Your District Tours with great success. In June we toured District 1 with Councilman Trevino, starting off our tour at Southtown and highlighting the tourism spots within that district including the areas thriving culinary scene.
The tour’s next stop was the Pride Crosswalk, focusing on the community involvement and dedication to highlighting the city’s inclusivity, diversity and welcoming environment for our LGBTQ visitors.
Councilman Trevino next highlighted the North St. Mary’s strip, always a thriving nightlife within the community, the area is undergoing even more vibrancy with the full development of the Pearl area.
The tour also included stops at Taquitos West Avenue, which is featured on Culinaria’s Food Trail’s list of best tacos in the city; as well as a stop at the new location of the Alamo Candy Company and its iconic Selena Mural.
Our D1 tour with Councilman Trevino concluded with a stop at Market Square. While this is already a well-known tourist destination, the Centro de Artes has manny exhibits each year representing local artists and the vibrant modern art scene in San Antonio.
One of the perks of membership with Visit San Antonio is having our legislative team at your disposal for tourism related issues and updates. During June and July, the team provided these legislative updates to our members in order to dispel any myths or misinterpretations regarding the 2019 legislative session, as well as an overall view of the current and upcoming legislative environments.
Our team also provides a non-partisan ‘Understanding Government 101’ presentation that is designed to inform your employees on the basics of government, voting and the importance of being electorally engaged. If you or your team would like a legislative update, next steps or voter engagement presentation, I encourage you to reach out to our Government Relations team.
