The beginning of Visit San Antonio’s fiscal year 2022, in October, was a characteristically busy month with plenty of media activity including hosting, pitching and travel.

October began with the key media announcement of L’Etape by Tour de France’s route and ride options for the April 2022 San Antonio event. Visit San Antonio was able to partner with the sports editors for two of Mexico’s largest newspapers and multimedia companies – El Universal and Milenio – as well as one of the main hosts of national radio show Los 40 Principales who is also a significant social media influencer in sports, Iñaki Alvarez. These media covered not only the L’Etape announcement, but also the start of the Spurs’ season and additional sports and adventure experiences available to the Mexican traveler for a well-rounded San Antonio coverage set.

The month also included a fantastic broadcast television opportunity to our community. Visit San Antonio partnered with a popular PBS travel show to film an episode, to be aired in spring 2022, dedicated to the Alamo City. We look forward to sharing more details in the coming months.

With Day of the Dead celebrations arriving at the end of the month, the Visit San Antonio team finalized pitching and hosted nearly a dozen media and social influencers from the United States and Mexico to ensure travelers were invited to attend this year’s celebrations or tempted to book for next year. U.S. media represented on this trip included Lonely Planet, TimeOut, He Said Magazine, Thrillist, Texas Monthly and Texas Highways. Also attending: social influencers Celine Linarte, Grace Kim and Cody Conk. Mexico media and influencers included TV Azteca, Mundo Ejecutivo, Mujer Ejecutiva, Roger Gonzalez and Ariadna Rufrancos.

Though the team was busy with Day of the Dead pitching and hosting, it was also looking ahead and pitching for the Holiday season to ensure San Antonio is recognized as a go-to destination in media stories about traveling for the season.

As we close out the calendar year in a few weeks, we are already looking toward 2022 and how we can best position San Antonio in the new year. This time of year, many media are looking for what travelers can plan for and expect in 2022, so if you have new developments and/or updated/upgraded experiences that will debut sometime in the new year, please be sure to let our team so we can include in our media conversations.
