Three new hotels are adding a combined 990 rooms to San Antonio's downtown inventory this year. Here's the latest luxury hotel news from the Alamo City.
New Marriott near the convention center
Opened in January was the 253-room Plaza San Antonio Hotel & Spa, an Autograph Collection property from Marriott about a 10-minute walk from the city's Henry B. González Convention Center. Made up of three 19th-century buildings, all listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel features lush gardens, a bungalow suite and a day spa.
Among the amenities are a resort-style swimming pool and two food-and-beverage outlets, Corinne San Antonio and the Anaqua Garden Bar. Corinne, the all-day eatery, weaves classic American food with South Texas and Gulf Coast influences, accompanied by an extensive cocktail and wine program. A 42-foot tall Anaqua tree is the inspiration for the Anaqua Garden Bar, which overlooks the outdoor pool. A fusion of Japanese and Latin dishes are served alongside botanical-forward cocktails, surrounded by lush seating and a soothing soundtrack. For gatherings, the hotel offers more than 21,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor spaces, including a nearly 6,000-square-foot ballroom.
Third Kimpton in Texas
Nearby, the 347-room Kimpton Santo is scheduled to debut this summer. On the property, a 19th-century schoolhouse is being transformed into a steak house and cocktail bar. Also planned is an open-air rooftop bar, a rooftop pool with private cabanas, and eight schoolhouse suites with stone walls and semi-private patios. More than 13,000 square feet of event space will include two ballrooms and an outdoor atrium.
A new River Walk hotel
Now taking reservations for September is the 390-room InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk. The 21-story property, boasting panoramic views, features 390 rooms with 20 suites, a Club InterContinental lounge, and four restaurant and bar concepts. On the city's famed River Walk — and less than a mile from the convention center — the hotel will offer direct access to the landmark pedestrian promenade as well as easy access to a water taxi-landing zone.
Meeting planners will have 18,000 square feet of event space to play with, from an intimate boardroom with the latest A/V, to an 8,000-square-foot ballroom with 18-foot ceilings, and flexible spaces with views of the San Antonio skyline. Among the amenities are a 1,800-square-foot fitness center, Les Clefs d’Or concierges with unrivaled local and cultural knowledge, and dedicated house cars.
