San Antonio, Texas (January 17, 2025) – The U.S. Department of Commerce today announced the appointment of Marc Anderson, President and CEO of Visit San Antonio, to the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board (TTAB). Anderson’s appointment will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the U.S. travel and tourism industry, providing critical insight and strategic recommendations to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board is comprised of leaders from across the travel, hospitality, and tourism sectors, tasked with advising the Secretary of Commerce on policies and initiatives that support the growth of the U.S. travel and tourism industry. The board works closely with the Department of Commerce to promote policies that strengthen the economic impact of tourism, foster global competitiveness, and enhance the visitor experience.
Marc Anderson brings extensive experience in driving innovative tourism initiatives and economic development. As the leader of Visit San Antonio, he has overseen successful strategies to increase tourism engagement, foster community partnerships, and advocate for sustainable growth within the industry. His expertise in navigating the complexities of global travel trends, regional economic development, and stakeholder collaboration will be an asset to the Board as it continues to advance the nation’s tourism agenda.
Visit San Antonio Board of Directors Chair Hope Andrade expressed her confidence in Anderson’s leadership and vision for the future of U.S. tourism: “Marc has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to strengthening the tourism sector and creating impactful, community-driven solutions. In San Antonio, tourism is an engine of growth and a leading industry for the local economy and jobs. In 2023, the sector increased local tax revenues by 11% and jobs by 5% from the previous year. Marc’s deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within this industry will be invaluable as we continue to drive economic growth and enhance the global competitiveness of American tourism.”
In his new appointment, Anderson will join 31 fellow Board members in advising the Secretary of Commerce on initiatives to increase U.S. tourism, enhance travel infrastructure, and identify new opportunities for industry innovation. His appointment follows a commitment to ensuring that the U.S. remains the world’s leading destination for international travelers and promotes job creation across local economies.
“I am honored to serve on the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board and be a voice for San Antonio and cities alike on strategies and initiatives framing tourism and hospitality locally and nationally,” said Anderson. “The U.S. travel and tourism industry is a powerful driver of economic growth, and I look forward to working alongside my fellow board members, the Department of Commerce, and the new Secretary to advance policies that foster sustainability, inclusivity, and long-term success for the sector.”
