San Antonio - On Tuesday, June 17, 2025 the San Antonio African American Archive and Museum (SAAACAM) and True Vision Church will host a tribute and press junket for the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Dr. Bobby Jones. This event will highlight the long and eventful career of Dr. Jones, and preview SAAACAM’s Juneteenth concert Freedom’s Song: A Journey Through Gospel Radio. The program includes remarks by Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert Jr. along with the presentation of proclamations from the City of San Antonio and the Bexar County Commissioners. There will be a special guest performance by the San Antonio Gospel Heritage Choir. This is a Juneteenth event.

ABOUT DR. BOBBY JONES
Recognized for having the longest running original series in cable television history. In 1980 Dr. Jones created and was the host of Bobby Jones Gospel on Black Entertainment Television (BET). Dr. Jones went on to create more television programs as well as host numerous radio programs. Dr. Jones has released several music albums and is an author of note.
Dr. Bobby Jones is a 1984 Grammy Award Winner, 2025 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, the recipient of three Stellar Awards and a Dove Award winner. In 2001 Dr. Jones received a presidential commendation from by President George W. Bush and performed at the White House Gospel Tribute in 2002. Dr. Jones was appointed Ambassador of the Commonwealth of Dominica in 2006. Dr. Jones has earned his Bachelor of Science from Tennessee State, his Doctorate of Education from Vanderbilt University and Theological Doctorate from Payne’s Theological Seminary.

The Freedom’s Song concert is an uplifting celebration of gospel radio’s enduring legacy featuring the San Antonio Gospel Heritage Choir with special guest Dr. Bobby Jones. The concert will honor gospel greats past and present through music, stories and rare archival moments.
