Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K will take place along a new course through Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston

SAN ANTONIO (September 12, 2022) – The City of San Antonio is excited to welcome back the Certified Piedmontese Beef Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Running Series along a new course through Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston (JBSA-Fort Sam Houston). The marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K will take place December 3-4, 2022.

“Runners from all over the world are invited to experience San Antonio’s vibrance and cultural heritage,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “As Military City, USA®, we are proud to showcase our rich military history as we welcome participants through JBSA-Fort Sam Houston.”

The 2022 Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half-Marathon will take place on Sunday, Dec. 4, and will begin in front of San Antonio City Hall. The race will enter JBSA-Fort Sam Houston at mile five, and will feature over three miles inside the base, before concluding in front of the UTSA Downtown Campus. The running series will also feature a 10K and 5K on Saturday, Dec. 3, as well as entertainment and live music throughout the race weekend.

San Antonio has one of the largest populations of active-duty military and veterans, as well as mission-critical commands, including military medicine, cybersecurity, pilot training and basic training. JBSA-Fort Sam Houston is home to more than 36,000 active duty and Department of Defense civilians; 48,000 family members; and 76,000 retirees.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll® Running Series is the world’s largest running series taking part in destination locations around the world every year. In its 14th year in San Antonio, the event attracts approximately 20,000 participants each year.
