St. Philip’s College: Building and Baking History

This festive village of delights has been created by students and instructors of the Alamo Colleges District St. Philip's College. St. Philip’s College was founded right here in La Villita in 1898, so this event honors the college’s historic beginnings by bringing today’s students back to their college’s roots to create this FREE experience for the community.

• Holiday Structures
Students from St. Philip’s College Construction Technology and Welding Technology programs have used their technical skills to build beautiful, full-size Alsatian-style houses and the massive holiday sleigh that brings the village to life. Building experts from Noble also contributed to the village’s success.

• Gingerbread Competition
Students from the Alamo Colleges Culinary Arts program are already at work creating giant gingerbread structures paying tribute to iconic San Antonio sites. Come see their giant creations on display.

“We’re proud that our enchanting St. Philip’s Holiday Village will stand in the same historic neighborhood where St. Philip’s College was founded,” says Chef Johnny Hernandez. “This has been a wonderful hands-on learning experience, and the buildings, styled after 1600s Alsatian cottages, and Santa’s giant new sleigh will be a charming cornerstone of this year’s Holiday in the Village.”
