San Antonio, TX – April 23, 2024 – Get ready, San Antonio! Chef Johnny Hernandez is thrilled to announce a dynamic new partnership bringing the beloved Southside flavor of Blue Moon Mexican Restaurant to the heart of Southtown at his popular Burgerteca location. This exciting collaboration promises to deliver a casual new dining experience, combining the best of two of San Antonio’s beloved family restaurants.

Beginning mid-May, the Burgerteca space will transform into a classic culinary hub, welcoming the Garcia family’s renowned Blue Moon Mexican Restaurant. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., this new venture with owners Alejandra and Silvano Garcia will showcase Blue Moon’s cherished menu, a testament to their 15 years of success, alongside Burgerteca favorites that locals love.

"I am so happy to welcome the Garcia family and Blue Moon into this partnership and to Southtown," says Chef Johnny Hernandez. "The Garcias are my dear neighbors, and Blue Moon—just two blocks from my house—has long been my go-to spot for great food. Our collaboration is a celebration of community, flavor, and the friendly spirit of San Antonio. We’re bringing together two local favorites to create something truly special."

Blue Moon, a family-owned gem known for its warm hospitality and authentic home-style Mexican meals, will continue to serve their hearty Mexican breakfast, lunch, and dinner options that have made them a Southside staple. But fear not, Burgerteca fans: The menu will still feature Burgerteca’s beloved bacon-wrapped hot dogs, specialty burgers, mac-n-cheese, Chef Johnny’s Caldo Xochitl, menudo and more, all complemented by a full bar offering favorite cocktails and margaritas.

The original Blue Moon location at 3228 S. Flores Street will remain open, but the Burgerteca location at 403 Blue Star St., Suite 105, in the shade of the Big Tex Silos, will offer an expanded menu, featuring the best of both restaurants.

Adding to the excitement, Chef Johnny Hernandez is pleased also to announce that Burgerteca, Southtown Coffee, and his former Fruteria on S. Flores Street, are set to become part of the highly anticipated Southtown Food Hall, slated to open in early 2026. This new gathering spot will celebrate the flavors and culture of Southtown, featuring a full bar, casual indoor and outdoor seating, live music, vibrant art, and unique shopping opportunities.

"The Southtown Food Hall will be a true reflection of our community's spirit," says Chef Hernandez. "We’re creating a space where everyone can come together to enjoy great food, drinks, and the laid-back yet artistic atmosphere that makes Southtown so special. I'm excited to explore and expand some of my original restaurant concepts to create something authentic and exciting for the neighborhood."

Meanwhile, San Antonio can look forward to the delicious alliance of Blue Moon and Burgerteca beginning next month as a family-friendly destination honoring tradition while embracing innovation.

Get ready for a culinary experience that celebrates the best of Southtown!
