If you live in San Antonio, the River Walk or any other Alamo City destination may not seem like such a big a deal. Well, the readers of travel publication Travel + Leisure seem to appreciate San Antonio sights so much that it landed on the 15 Best Cities in the U.S. in the 2024 World's Best Awards. San Antonio lands at No. 7 on the list with a reader score of 83.2.

Travel + Leisure writes that San Antonio's historic attractions like the Alamo and its other missions are a big selling point for readers, but it also points to more contemporary attractions like the River Walk and its more recent addition in the Museum Reach area.

One reader tells Travel + Leisure that the River Walk is "probably one of the nicest places we have ever visited in the [United] States. It was exceptionally maintained and absolutely beautiful."

San Antonio narrowly outdid Fort Worth and its score of 83.19. Still, the Alamo City and Fort Worth are the only Texas cities to land on the list of the best U.S. cities. Austin and Houston are outside the club looking in.

Texas is also the only other state, along with New Mexico, to have two cities on this year's list.

Travel + Leisure lets its readers rank travel destinations based on sights, culture, food, friendliness, shopping and value. San Antonio has been making strides to make the city more of a destination city, including a new park and hotel at Hemisfair and a complete revamp of Alamo Plaza. Talks are still reportedly underway to build new stadiums in downtown.
