In the city’s past, car clubs served as social events where friends would gather to trade automotive innovations, modifications and enhancements—anything to make the car “better.” Car clubs are not particular to any culture group. But in San Antonio, the Mexican-American low rider culture showcases social and creative expression. Today, car shows are more like art shows – spotlighting genuine, innovative art forms practiced by Chicanos and Mexican Americans.
