"The World of Irreversible Change" at San Antonio Museum of Art

Horizontal electronic screen of digital active village

The World of Irreversible Change by teamLab is on view at the San Antonio Museum of Art through March 23, 2025.

This art piece mimics the style of historic Japanese screens like Scenes in and Around Kyoto (Rakuchu Rakugai-zu), offering a bird's-eye view of the ancient capital city with its lively buildings and bustling streets. Viewers interact with the art world of a virtual city that exists both in the past and the present, influencing the actions of its inhabitants. While these inhabitants may sometimes become agitated and cause destruction, the virtual environment continually regenerates, though it is perpetually altered.

Learn more about this piece and travel the world through even more artworks at the San Antonio Museum of Art.

@visitsanantonio Inspired by historic Japanese screens, teamLab: The World of Irreversible Change is an interactive digital artwork that responds to viewers’ actions, altering a virtual cityscape that changes in real-time with seasons and weather. 🎨 ✨ ☀️ When we visited, it was a cloudy day, so the weather across the six monitors was also cloudy. ☁️ This interactive exhibit at @sama_art explores the relationship between digital and analog art, collective creativity, and humanity’s connection to the environment. Make sure to check out the upcoming Lecture: teamLab: Collectivity, Chance, and the Fabric of Urban Japan with Nina Horisaki-Christens happening July 16 | 6-7 p.m. | John L. Santino’s Auditorium at @sama_art ✨ #VisitSanAntonio #teamlab #museum #museummoment #museumtok #sanantoniomuseumofart #riverwalk #riverwalksanantonio #fyp ♬ Chill / Sleep / Eat / Repeat - Japanese LoFi
