The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is one of Texas’ most iconic annual events, bringing rodeo competitions, live concerts, carnival fun, and cowboy culture to the Alamo City each February. Running from February 12 to March 1, 2026, this 18-day celebration draws more than 1.5 million visitors and is a must-see experience for families, rodeo fans, and first-time visitors alike.

Rodeos have been a  Texas tradition since 1883, when the first rodeo took place in Pecos, Texas, where awards were doled out to winners of events.

What Is the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo?

The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is an annual event organized by the PCRA, short for the Professional Cowboys & Rodeo Association. 

Since 1949, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has been a cornerstone of the Alamo City’s cultural scene. Drawing over 1.5 million visitors annually, it’s a spectacle like no other, with over 20,000 exhibitors and 6,000 volunteers.

The 18-day event features thrilling rodeo competitions, live concerts, a bustling carnival, and a stock show that awards scholarships to high school students. As part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) schedule, it’s one of the most prestigious events in the rodeo world.

Rodeo Events & Cowboy Culture at the San Antonio Rodeo

The San Antonio Rodeo celebrates Texan culture, and you won't want to miss the thrilling rodeo events. Each night, from bull riding to barrel racing, saddle bronc riding to steer wrestling, promises adrenaline-pumping action. Some of our favorite events include:

• Charreada Extravaganza | Experience a traditional Mexican rodeo, where daring horseback maneuvers, impressive rope skills, and the captivating artistry of the escaramuza take center stage. This dynamic performance celebrates heritage and equestrian finesse that you won't want to miss.

• Mutton Bustin' Adventure | Get ready for the cutest rodeo action – Mutton Bustin' is a crowd favorite at the San Antonio Rodeo! Watch as little Buckaroos bravely ride sheep for an exciting six seconds under the arena lights. It happens at every rodeo performance (excluding the Finals).

• Youth Rodeo | Cheer on rodeo’s rising stars at the Youth Rodeo, a four-day, high-energy showcase where more than 1,000 young athletes compete in everything from barrel racing and pole bending to bull riding and bronc events.
   

Family-Friendly Activities at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo

If you're new to the rodeo scene and are traveling with younger children, the Fair Grounds provides an ideal setting to immerse yourself in the excitement! 

The Rodeo Fairgrounds offer a variety of activities, including carnival rides such as bumper cars and a Ferris wheel, fun houses & mirror mazes, carnival games with prizes, pony rides, and petting zoos.

Admission prices vary by age and can be purchased at the gate or online. Discounted rates apply to children and seniors, and military personnel receive free entry with a valid ID. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect:

• Shop — At the Expo Hall, you’ll discover over 175 unique vendors to shop and explore. 

• Carnival — While you’ll find the classic rides for all ages to experience, head to the Expo Hall to check out the indoor carnival. 

• Animal Encounters — The fairgrounds feature a Petting Farm, Pony Rides, Pig Races, Wildlife, TX Education Trail, and much more!
