San Antonio is known for its lively culture, delicious Tex-Mex cuisine, and deep heritage rooted in over 300 years of history. What many first-time visitors don’t know is that our history extends far beyond the border of Downtown and the walls of the Alamo.

Today, we’re traveling south of Downtown along the Mission Reach stretch of the river to one of the city’s most culturally rich neighborhoods: San Antonio’s World Heritage. Come join us!

What Lies Ahead in the World Heritage Neighborhood?

San Antonio’s World Heritage neighborhood consists of South San Antonio and the four southernmost historic Missions. These Missions were the first settlements in San Antonio, making this area one of the oldest in the city. Today, World Heritage offers a stunning combination of history, outdoor activities, and modern amenities. It’s truly the bridge between San Antonio’s past and future.

The Top Things to Do in San Antonio’s World Heritage Neighborhood

Whether you’re a history buff or a nature enthusiast, there are plenty of things to do in San Antonio’s World Heritage neighborhood. Here are a few of our favorites.

River Walk Mission Reach

Walk, Bike, or Kayak Mission Reach

The bustling Downtown River Walk extends further south and eventually leads into Mission Reach, an 8-mile linear park with over 16 miles of trails that all connect to the San Antonio Missions. Choose whether you want to walk, bike, or even kayak and tap into the ultimate nature trail (with cultural and historical stops along the way).

Stop at Confluence Park

When walking Mission Reach from Downtown, one of the first stops you’ll come across is Confluence Park. It’s easy to spot — look for the pavilion made up of giant cement petals along the banks of the river.

Confluence Park is a lovely spot to rest and learn more about San Antonio’s ecological systems.
