From the Alamo to the River Walk, downtown San Antonio offers a never-ending list of fun things to do. But have you considered channeling your inner cowboy and heading further west? To San Antonio’s Westside Deco District, that is!

The Westside is where you can find a real slice of San Antonio culture—and even the whole enchilada since this is the birthplace of Tex-Mex cuisine! Let’s check out the history of this neighborhood and exciting things to do here.

Tapping into Real San Antonio History

San Antonio’s Westside Deco District has roots going back to the 18th century. The heart of the Westside is home to the city’s Mexican American heritage, which you can find everywhere, from the local Tex-Mex restaurants to stunning wall murals that offer a glimpse into the neighborhood's history and culture

Adjoining the Westside is the charming Deco District, which was developed in the 1920s alongside the historic Old Spanish Trail, the first paved coast-to-coast U.S. highway. The Deco District is named for the Art Deco homes and businesses that line its streets, including a retro mini golf course and historic theater.
