Your Romantic Getaway in San Antonio

3 Days | River Walk, Fine Dining, Spa Days & Late Nights

San Antonio has always been a city for romance. The River Walk winds beneath centuries-old cypress trees, historic neighborhoods spill into candlelit dining rooms, and the pace of the city slows just enough to make every moment feel intentional.

Whether celebrating an anniversary, a milestone, or just each other, San Antonio is the best place for a romantic Texas getaway.

Best for: Getting settled in, finding your first drink, and letting San Antonio set the tone before the weekend begins

Where to Stay

Two hotels that understand what romance actually requires: atmosphere, intention, and the feeling that someone thought of everything.

The Monarch San Antonio, a Curio Collection by Hilton property, is San Antonio's newest luxury arrival and a nature-inspired boutique hotel in the heart of downtown, with design rooted in elegance and attention to detail that rewards the attentive guest.

With multiple dining concepts, a rooftop experience, and a spa under one roof, it's a destination in itself.

Omni La Mansión del Rio is one of San Antonio's most storied hotels. Check in to a Spanish colonial landmark set directly on the River Walk, where the water moves just outside your window, and the city's most romantic stretch of the river is steps from your door. If San Antonio has a classic romantic hotel, this is it.

Evening

Once you've settled in, the night belongs to the two of you.

Dinner is at Maverick Texas Brasserie, a sophisticated brasserie just south of downtown that brings together the best of Texas ingredients with a refined, unhurried dining experience. The menu spans thoughtfully crafted seasonal dishes, a strong wine program, and the kind of warm, attentive service that makes a first night in the city feel like a celebration. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Padlocks with initials engraved and written on at San Antonio Love Lock Bridge.

After dinner, take the long way back along the San Antonio River Walk.  Make your way to the San Antonio Love Lock Bridge, where couples have been leaving padlocks engraved with their names and initials as a permanent mark on the city. Bring your own lock, or pick one up nearby for a small gesture that stays with you long after the weekend ends.

Saturday: Slow Down, Indulge, Stay Out Late

Best for: A morning without a schedule, an afternoon that restores you, and an evening to enjoy each other's company

Morning

Saturday has no agenda until you're ready to give it one. Have breakfast at Nectarie Cafe inside The Monarch. It's a light, thoughtfully composed cafe experience that eases you into the day without rushing it. If you're staying at Omni La Mansión, order in and spend the morning on the balcony with the river below.

Midday

The afternoon belongs to restoration. The Spa at Hotel Contessa is one of San Antonio's most serene spa experiences. Set inside a luxury all-suite hotel directly on the River Walk, it offers indulgent treatments in an atmosphere that feels genuinely removed from the pace of the city outside. Massages, facials, body treatments, and the kind of unhurried attention that makes a spa visit feel like its own destination.

Insider tip: Book couples treatments side by side when you make your reservation. Not all treatment rooms accommodate two, so request it specifically when you call.

Afternoon

From the spa, make your way to FlorVino for the Wine & Wisdom show, a 90-minute wine experience unlike anything else in San Antonio. Sip flower wines while hearing the winemaker's personal story and the history behind the art of flower winemaking. It's intimate, unhurried, and genuinely surprising.

Evening

Tonight is a progression worth savoring from start to finish.

Board a Go Rio Dining Cruise for dinner on the water. Go Rio partners with restaurants along the River Walk to bring the meal to you as you glide along the most scenic stretch of the river, narrated, unhurried, and as romantic as San Antonio gets. Book in advance and choose your restaurant partner when you reserve.

After the cruise, make your way to Nicosi, a 20-seat MICHELIN star dessert bar at the Pearl that will redefine what you thought dessert could be. Nicosi operates with two seatings nightly at 5:30pm and 8pm; book the 8pm seating to follow the cruise. The experience embraces the full spectrum of flavor, ranging from acid to sweet, bitter, and savory, in a setting so intimate that every course feels personal. Come dressed for the occasion; Nicosi has a dress code and does not allow photography. They provide non-adhesive covers for camera lenses, because some experiences are meant to be lived rather than documented.

Insider tip: Reservations at Nicosi are required, and seats are limited to 20. Book well in advance as this is the most coveted table in San Antonio.

1 Watson View

Night

End the evening at 1Watson Rooftop Bar for a sophisticated rooftop lounge with sweeping downtown views, craft cocktails, and the kind of ambient energy that makes a nightcap feel like the natural close to a perfect night. Order something worth lingering over and stay as long as the evening allows.

Sunday: A Quiet Morning & the Road Home

Blush restaurant burger & fries and pancakes

Best for: A slow brunch, one last look at the city, and leaving with something you'll carry for a long time

Brunch

Head south to Blush in Southtown for brunch. A neighborhood favorite serving daily from 9 am, with a menu that makes a strong case for staying at the table longer than you planned. Blush sits in San Antonio's arts district, a few minutes from downtown, where the pace is slower, and the streets are worth wandering.

Note: Blush is in Southtown, not directly on the River Walk, but the neighborhood's character is part of what makes it worth the short drive.

Late Morning

From Blush, walk to San Pedro Creek Culture Parka mile-long urban greenway that traces San Antonio's history through an extraordinary series of mosaic murals, from indigenous roots through the present. It's free, it's beautiful, and on a Sunday morning, it's yours. Let it be the last impression the city leaves before you head home.
