Between the iconic Alamo, its charming River Walk, and other attractions, San Antonio’s long been a great family vacation destination. Fortunately, the Texas city also overflows with kid-friendly lodgings, offering attractive family amenities like waterpark-like pools, borrowable baby gear, and kid sitting. If Alamo City travel plans are in your future, be sure to check out one of these hotels or resorts, packed with amenities that both kids and adults will love.

Drury Plaza Hotel San Antonio North Stone Oak

Kids stay free at this simple hotel situated close to the airport in north central San Antonio. A rooftop pool and hot tub offer a view of the city skyline, and rollaway beds and cribs are available. Amenities that help your family save a few bucks include a complimentary light snack every evening (think soft drinks and popcorn) and a hot breakfast every morning, plus each room includes a microwave and refrigerator.

Embassy Suites by Hilton San Antonio Riverwalk Downtown

Situated riverside and with a rooftop pool, this all-suite hotel near the River Walk offers spacious accommodations with two huge TVs and a mini kitchen. Many rooms have a view of the famous River Walk, plus the Embassy Suites offers the complimentary made-to-order breakfast and an evening reception the entire family will love.

Hotel Emma

Housed in a repurposed 19th-century brewery, this luxury riverfront hotel sits between the San Antonio River and the trendy, food-focused Pearl complex. The brewery’s clock tower and storehouses have been repurposed into atmospheric guest rooms and common areas. Adults are greeted with a complimentary margarita at check-in, and a full breakfast is included. Families with infants can request wooden cribs and play pens, and a small refrigerator and microwave can be placed in the room upon request. Connecting rooms are available, and children under 11 are gifted with a backpack holding a stuffed animal or art set. Though there is no swimming pool, the popular free splash pad at Pearl is just outside. A full-service spa is on site, and babysitting service can be arranged. Additionally, Electra bikes are available and are especially popular with teens, parents, and grandparents.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa

Located on 300 acres of historic ranch land on the outskirts of the city, this secluded resort boasts plenty to keep kids and adults entertained, including a playground and arcade, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, bikes, and a nature trail—not to mention a golf course plus a 5-acre water park with a lazy river, two-story waterslide, and wave machine. Organized activities include scavenger hunts, movie nights on the lawn and special dinner deals and menus for kids. Should you feel a need to get away, SeaWorld is just 1½ miles down the road.

JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa

Set on the outskirts of town amid 600 acres of oak-covered hills, this luxury resort features the 9-acre River Bluff Water Experience water park with aquatic attractions galore—a definite kid pleaser. The upscale rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, coffee makers and refrigerators, and the restaurants offer enticing kids menus. Children go bonkers over the long lazy river, multiple water slides and pools, an action river ride and a special area for younger kids. Kid activities include rubber ducky races, s’mores around the fire pit, crafts and sports, and the Kid’s Night Out program allowing parents a few child-free hours. The Range Riders Kids Club supervised program for ages 4 through 12 provides parents time during the day to visit the spa and adults-only pool area, or play golf just next door. Natural Bridge Caverns and Hill Country wineries are nearby.

La Cantera Resort & Spa

Situated on 550 acres in San Antonio’s scenic Hill Country, just across the road from Six Flags Fiesta Texas, this family-oriented luxe resort offers rooms with a kitchen and smart TV, plus room service featuring kid-friendly snacks. A Kids’ Club provides supervised care for ages 4 to 12. On Saturdays, a Naturalist Program co-developed with the San Antonio Zoo and San Antonio Botanical Gardens teaches children about the area’s native trees, cacti, and wildlife—think raccoons, armadillos, deer, wild pigs and possums—that share the resort grounds. (Kids will also learn to identify a variety of animal droppings!) Swimming pools include one where kids can play in a splash zone or whiz down two slides, and also an adults-only infinity pool and hot tub. Sunset S’mores and Family Movie Night outside are also sometimes scheduled, and a resort shuttle takes guests to nearby Six Flags,

At this luxury property, two large swimming pools and a Kids Crew program appeal to children, while in-room massages and spa treatments appeal to adults. A hydrotherapy pool at the spa is also noteworthy. American cuisine is served at Bolo’s Rotisserie, and the Lobby Bar serves up cocktails and live entertainment. Family-friendly “float-in” movies are scheduled in summer.
