Victorian Twilight

March 6 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Price: $20
Victorian Twilight 800

Music for strings and piano from England in a time of great change, the end of the Victorian era. The program is anchored by Frank Bridge’s brooding Piano Quintet and opens with a youthful work by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (not to confused with the 18th century poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge). Well-known in his own time both in his home country and abroad, Coleridge-Taylor was an English composer of mixed racial background perhaps best known for his oratorio The Song of Hiawatha. His music is enjoying renewed attention from performers and audiences.

The program:

Coleridge-Taylor: 5 Fantasiestucke, Op. 5

Bridge: Piano Quintet in D minor

The performers:

Laura Scalzo & Anastasia Parker, violins

Emily Freudigman, viola

Ken Freudigman, cello

Viktor Valkov, piano
