Salute to Psi Sigma Chapter Documentary & “Go Down, Death” Film Screening
The San Antonio Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated celebrates their history with a documentary titled “Salute To Psi Sigma,” which highlights their inception and rich history in the Alamo City. Myra Davis Hemmings, one of the 22 founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and nine women chartered the San Antonio Alumnae Chapter on August 16, 1933, once known as Psi Sigma. These trailblazers fought against racial barriers and emerged as a powerful force. The San Antonio Alumnae Chapter continues to work to empower communities and the legacy continues today through community service and enrichment of the lives of young people. “Growing Up Female, a workshop for young girls during Fiesta, and “Embodi,” for young men are official tricentennial events recognized by the city.
“Go Down, Death” is an independent film by the pioneering African-American star and filmmaker Spencer K. Williams. The story is about a crime boss (Williams) whose fight against a local preacher eventually wracks him with guilt. The movie was shot at various locations on San Antonio’s East Side.
