ABOUT THE FILM
ROMA is a film about an indigenous domestic worker who inspires this intimate yet universal portrait of family, memory and love. The Director Oscar Winner Alfonso Cuarón delivers a vivid, emotional portrait of an Indigenous domestic worker’s journey. The story follows Cleo, who works and cares for a middle-class family in the neighborhood of Roma in Mexico City, where Cuarón was born. The film brings visibility to the story of Cleo, the complex relationships between the women in the family and domestic workers who work for them, the bonds between workers and the children they care for, and the full lives and struggles of domestic workers as women, mothers, friends, and lovers — and in fact, Roma is based on and dedicated to Libo, the domestic worker who cared for Cuarón’s family when he was growing up in Mexico. This film asks us to explore how we can make a difference for the women who care for our families and our homes.
