Join us Sunday, May 15 , for “Mentacide: The Mental Effects of Slavery and Racism” an online presentation discussing the psychological impact of slavery and racism on Black people in America.
Dr. Joy DeGruy, author of Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America’s Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing, argues that Black “infighting,” materialism, poor parenting, jealousy, colorism, defeatism, frustration, rage—these “dysfunctional,” these “negative” behaviors “as well as many others are in large part related to trans-generational adaptations associated with the past traumas of slavery and on-going oppression.”
