Influenced by French harmony and English folk song, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ On Wenlock Edge is hauntingly beautiful. The song cycle peers into human existence using text from A.E. Housman’s poetry cycle A Shropshire Lad.

Kurt Weill’s songs examine war and its consequences through the eyes of poet Walt Whitman. These verses celebrate the innovative, honorable, and brave spirit of those who founded the United States of America, and of the men and women who continue to make our country great.
John Harold Kander’s Letter to Sullivan Ballou is a musical setting of a real letter written by Civil War Major Sullivan Ballou to his wife expressing his concerns about upcoming conflicts and his feelings which are torn between his love for his family and his love of his country.
