Carver Library Presents: Queens of Poetry
Do you like Poetry?
Come on over to Carver Library on Thursday, March 5th to hear the unapologetic talent of Ms. Jessica Care Moore and Dr. Joanne Gabbin. Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson will be the Mistress of Ceremony for the evening.
Jessica Care Moore is the CEO of Moore Black Press, Executive Producer of Black WOMEN Rock!, and founder of the literacy-driven, Jess Care Moore Foundation. An internationally renowned poet, playwright, performance artist, and producer, she has published multiple works and has also published the works of others. Born in Detroit, Jessica Care Moore first came to national prominence when she won on the legendary “It’s Showtime at the Apollo” and has been going full steam ahead ever since.
Joanne Gabbin, Ph.D. established both the Furious Flower Poetry Conference (1994, 2004) and the Furious Flower Poetry Center at James Madison University in Virginia (2005). Dr. Gabbin has written several books and has won multiple awards. She was inducted to the International Literary Hall of Fame for Writers of African Descent in 2005.
Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson, a local San Antonio poet, has been featured on numerous throughout the city and beyond. She is most recently known as the host of the long-running Open Mic Night, 2nd Verse. Vocab is a local legend, participating in various conferences, competitions and winning several awards including the San Antonio Public Library’s Arts & Letters Award.
