Palo Alto College presents: Virtual Heritage Month | Indigenous Peoples’ Day/Día de la Raza
(This is a Virtual Event via Zoom)
While Columbus Day traditionally honors the significance of Europeans “discovering” the Americas, Indigenous Peoples’ Day honors the heritage and contributions of indigenous/Native Americans who inhabited these lands long before the arrival of Europeans.
Part 1: Decolonial/Health-Conscious Cooking Demonstration
This demonstration will feature a recipe from the cookbook Decolonize Your Diet: Plant-Based Mexican-American Recipes for Health and Healing (2015 International Latino Book Award for Best Cookbook) by Luz Calvo and Catriona Rueda Esquibel.
Part 2: Panel Discussion/Plática: «Indigenous/Xicanx Healing Practices During Times of Crisis»
During this time of collective physical, emotional, and financial crisis, ethnic minorities including Indigenous and Latinx/Chicanx communities are being negatively affected at a significantly higher rate. This panel will address the impact of this collective crisis on these communities and provide healing strategies for wellness through Indigenous/Xicanx cultural-based methods focused on mental, physical, emotional and spiritual wellness.
