With the start of summer fast approaching, it is never too early to start preparing for your Memorial Day weekend in San Antonio. From family-friendly festivals to awe-inspiring performances to honoring those sacrificing for our freedoms, there is no shortage of things to do over the holiday.
To get the most out of the weekend, we have taken the hassle from organizing your vacation or staycation to-do list so you can focus on the fun. Highlighted below are the Memorial Day events arranged by day, so you’ll be sure to not miss a thing.
Friday, May 27th
Enjoy the iconic backdrop of the San Antonio Riverwalk while supporting local artists at the Memorial Day River Walk Artisan Show. Over 40 booths will gather alongside the river offering pottery, textiles, jewelry, woodwork, paintings, beadwork, and so much more. The free event is perfect to kick off your weekend in the heart of the Alamo city.
The San Antonio Zoo is already a family-friendly destination but will provide even more enjoyment with its Monarch Festival. The festival celebrates the beauty of the monarch butterfly with the opportunity to create crafts, participate in various games, and interactive learning experiences. You will even be able to create a butterfly feeder to bring the excitement back home.
Literally, laugh out loud with stand-up comedian Gary Owens. Known as the “Funniest Serviceman in America”, Gary has been entertaining audiences for more than a decade performing at sold-out shows throughout the country.
Saturday, May 28th
The 23rd Annual Festival of Flowers is back after a COVID-19 delay with its new location at the San Antonio Garden Center located in the stunning San Antonio Botanical Gardens. A tranquil escape, the festival has the largest plant exchange in Texas surrounded by a beautiful landscape.
A performance highlighting the bravery of nine African-Americans called the “Little Rock Nine”. Through modern dance, dynamic visuals, intricate costumes, and emotional music the performance piece is sure to move anyone in the audience.
Cristian Castro at Majestic Theatre
Legendary Mexican pop singer, Cristian Castro, is coming to the renowned Majestic Theatre– the oldest and largest atmospheric theatre in San Antonio. After making waves with his hit singles in the 90s, Castro continues to be considered today as one of the most talented Hispanic singers over last three decades. Castro will be joined by famous contemporary singer, Mijares, making it a night of Latin-Pop icons sensations!
San Antonio Symphony Presents the Music of John Williams at the Tobin Center
The San Antonio Symphony is celebrating America’s favorite composer and conductor John Williams’s 90th birthday with an evening filled with iterations of his blockbuster scores.
Sunday, May 29th
Foodies and families will have the opportunity to enjoy over 60 global cuisines alongside beer, wine, and cocktail selections at SeaWorld San Antonio for Memorial Day weekend. ‘Set sail on a taste adventure’ that will fill up an entire day of munchies and activities while enjoying the limitless entertainment that SeaWorld has to offer.
Explore San Antonio with a guided tour covering four historic unique bars, taverns, and pubs alongside the riverwalk and downtown. Take this as an opportunity to socialize with others alongside your five-hour tour, but be aware reservations are required!
Sponsored by the City of San Antonio, both Saturday and Sunday, May 28th and 29th, from 10 AM-6 PM the Historic Market Square will commemorate the holiday by offering live bands, Folklorico dance performances, Mariachi, specialty vendors and various food booths!

Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Ceremony
At 9:30 AM, Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony.
Operation Comfort 11th Annual Memorial Day Car Show
Operation Comfort is a wonderful organization dedicated to supporting wounded and injured service members. This year marks their 11th year hosting their annual Memorial Day Car Show Fundraiser which will include food, a silent auction, raffles, live DJ and goodie bags.
Drink specials and active fun come to Chicken N Pickle for a full-day itinerary on Memorial Day. The indoor/outdoor venue provides yard games, delicious food, a full-bar, and of course – pickleball. Kicking back and celebrating with friends and family couldn’t be easier than this.
