San Antonio is the perfect spot for a weekend getaway because the city has so many things to do. But where to begin? To help you out, we’ve done all the hard work and planned the perfect itinerary for a San Antonio weekend trip.
Friday Night: Get a Taste of San Antonio
Back to Top of List1. Check Into Your Downtown San Antonio Hotel
When you stay Downtown, you are in the center of all the action and just a short trip from must-see attractions. We recommend options like the Hilton Palacio del Rio Hotel, Omni La Mansion del Rio, or Mokara Hotel & Spa — all located right on the scenic River Walk.
2. Take a Stroll on the River Walk.
Get a lay of the land and unwind after a day of travel with a leisurely stroll along the famous San Antonio River Walk, which lies just out the door of your hotel. Take note of restaurants, bars, and other attractions along the way.
@visitsanantonio Have you ever had the tableside guacamole at Boudros?! Its so fresh and delicious 🤤 we definitely recommend getting a margarita to pair with it too! #visitsanantonio #sanantoniotiktok #sanantoniotexas #sanantonioriverwalk #boudros #boudrostexasbistro #riverwalksanantonio #riverwalk #texastravel ♬ original sound - VisitSanAntonio
3. Have a Tex-Mex Dinner
San Antonio is famous for its Tex-Mex cuisine, so we recommend getting your fix on day one. A few favorites along the River Walk include:
- Casa Rio - the oldest River Walk restaurant famous for its colored umbrellas
- Boudro’s - known for their prickly pear margaritas (a local favorite)
- Iron Cactus - a true Tex-Mex staple with beautiful river views
4. Catch the Sunset Over the Alamo
Don’t think we forgot the Alamo! The Alamo sits in the middle of Downtown, one level up from the River Walk. After dinner, head over to catch the sunset over the most iconic site in Texas.
5. End the Night With Drinks Over the Skyline
Finally, toast to the perfect first night at the 1 Watson rooftop bar, where you can enjoy a stunning view of the illuminated San Antonio skyline.
Saturday Night: Explore the Culture of the City

1. Grab a Concha and Coffee
Start your morning out like a true San Antonian and grab a concha pastry and coffee at La Panaderia, a famed local bakery that’s even been featured on Food Network.
2. Take the GO RIO Shuttle Up the River
Next, hop aboard a famous GO RIO river barge and take the shuttle upriver to Museum Reach, San Antonio’s cultural corridor. This is the most fun (and fast) way to get to our next stop on the itinerary.
3. Immerse Yourself in Art & Culture
Get off your river barge at the San Antonio Museum of Art stop. SAMA is housed in the old Lone Star Brewery. The collections span centuries of history across Ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt.
4. Lunch and Leisure at Pearl
Walk the rest of the way up the Museum Reach stretch of the river until you hit Pearl, San Antonio’s unofficial culinary district. There are dozens of restaurant options to choose from for lunch. We recommend you take some time to unwind in Pearl Park, too (maybe even with a margarita in hand).
5. Enjoy a Bit of Mexican Culture at Market Square
After a lovely leisurely afternoon, head back Downtown to Historic Market Square. This is where San Antonio embraces its Mexican heritage and truly comes alive. You can browse open markets, enjoy live music, and grab dinner at the famous Mi Tierra Cafe.
Sunday Night: Good Brunch & Goodbye's
Back to Top of List1. Brunch in Hemisfair Park
Sadly, the weekend getaway is coming to a close. But you can’t go out without a banging brunch. Take a short stroll over to Hemisfair Park, located under the Tower of the Americas. Here, you will find Box St. All Day Brunch, which has the perfect meal (and Instagram backdrop) for your send-off.
