This year’s festival runs from July 30 through August 4, offering chances to immerse yourself in the world of the silver screen and also connect with other film lovers and professionals at mixers and special events. Here’s everything you need to know before the opening credits roll.
What is the San Antonio Film Festival?
The San Antonio Film Festival is celebrating 30 years of creating an inclusive platform for cinema artists and enthusiasts to connect, showcase their work, and partake in the joys of cinema. Regular attendees include everyone from the press and industry leaders to new filmmakers and die-hard fans.
The festival's mission is to bring global filmmakers together to celebrate, educate, and transcend cinema in our city. From Hollywood industry panels to indie features to short film blocks, SAFILM showcases hundreds of films annually during its six-day festival, highlighting many local San Antonio filmmakers and honoring legendary film heroes.
The festival was founded by Executive Director Adam Rocha in 1994. It started as the Underground Film Fest and grew into educating the next generation of film artists through ongoing screenings, educational symposiums, film events, and partnerships. The San Antonio Film Festival team is powered by donations and the hard work of volunteers and interns, many of whom are former students of Rocha, who teaches film at Sonia Sotomayor High School. This year, the San Antonio Film Festival received a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The funds will help make this 30th year the best one yet.
This is the event of the year for the film industry to make connections, advance their careers, and enjoy each other’s work. So, get ready for lights, camera, action!
