The Diwali Festival of Lights is a five-day holiday celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and other faiths across India and South Asia. It marks the time the moon takes to orbit the Earth, akin to New Year’s Eve.
The Diwali Festival of Lights celebration also displays how light triumphs over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. It also is a time to foster prosperity and wealth. Diwali celebrations include traditional festival food, ceremonies, wearing fine clothes and accessories, and using light in many different forms, from candles to fireworks.

What is Anuja SA?
The most prominent authority on Diwali is Anuja SA, a non-profit organization created to promote the alliance between Chennai, India, and San Antonio, Texas. The mission of Anuja SA is to work closely with the city of San Antonio’s International Relations Office.
Anuja SA also seeks to promote the five pillars (arts and culture, business and commerce, education, sports and recreation, and medicine) between these two cities.
Observe Diwali, San Antonio Style
Did you know the biggest Diwali event in San Antonio started in 2009 to celebrate the unique relationship between San Antonio and Chennai, India? Although Diwali’s official date is October, the largest event in San Antonio takes place on Saturday, November 5, 2022.
From 4:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., at the Arneson Theatre and Hemisfair, celebrate the San Antonio Diwali festival of Lights. This free event will include traditional Indian dances, live entertainment, and vendor booths selling goods and food from various parts of India.
Experience the joy of Diwali with people dressed in traditional clothing, Indian-style decorations, and thousands of festival attendees. The event’s culmination will include lighting candles and placing them on the water to float.
This single-night festival is co-hosted by the City of San Antonio and is a celebration you will not want to miss.
