San Antonio has some great vintage, resale stores and flea markets. Treasure hunting at these stores can yield some unusual finds. If it's outlet shopping you're looking for, two nearby major outlets are a destination unto themselves, with hundreds of stores.
THRIFT & RESALE SHOPS
Downtown
Of course you'll visit Historic Market Square, the biggest Mexican market outside Mexico, because it's a must see. But just around the corner, you might want to step into the Goodwill store. It has great vintage items but be sure to check out the area called Julia’s Attic, which features donations by Junior Leaguers.
North Central
West Olmos
The West Olmos area has a funky vibe with authentic thrift stores that are trendy and fun. Otra Vez features high-end women’s resale and new boutique items. If you time it right, you might just score an amazing handbag and/or shoes. Buffalo Exchange offers trendy new and resale clothing for the younger crowd that you or your teen will love. Go vintage at Endless Possibilities with clothing and house wares that are both fun and unique. And hit Off My Rocker, which sells antique and furniture consignments of every style (editor's note: at press time, the only info available was here on Yelp.)
West Avenue
This is thrift-store alley with some of San Antonio’s best-kept thrift store secrets. The Assistance League Thrift House gets most donations from Assistance League members as well as items left from garage and estate sales – you won’t leave this shop empty-handed. Roy Maas’ Youth Alternatives Thrift Shop features fab finds for the family as well as a great record and CD selection.
FLEA MARKETS
North
The San Antonio Current, the city's alternative weekly and cultural arbiter, polls readers every year and compiles a best-of list. Readers chose Bussey's Flea Market in 2010 (and probably every year prior) as the city's best flea market. Over 500 vendors sell everything from vintage lunch boxes to cuban cigars.
South
Newer to the flea market world is Traders Village -- is it a swap meet, a treasure hunt, a county fair or a shopping complex? Whatever it is, you won't be wanting: 1,000 vendors, live music, rides and festivals like the Chili Cookoff and the native American Pow Wow.
OUTLET MALLS
Two regional outlet malls, right next to each other, are less than an hour northeast of San Antonio. A shuttle service leaves from downtown San Antonio or the San Antonio International Airport and takes you round-trip to either mall.
More than 140 stores at the San Marcos Premium Outlets include Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5TH, Last Call by Neiman Marcus, Gucci, Fendi, Victoria's Secret, Tory Burch, True Religion, Ed Hardy, Nike Factory Store, Polo Ralph Lauren, Coach and more all at savings of 25% to 65% every day.
Tanger Outlets has more than 100 of the world' s most popular brand name and designer outlet stores such as: Calvin Klein, American Eagle Outfitters, Banana Republic, Seiko, Eddie Bauer, Champion, Disney Store, Fossil, Old Navy, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, Kenneth Cole, Skechers and many more! Voted as the Official Best Outlet Mall in Texas-2010 by Media USA.
