The weather’s cooler but the music’s hot at these three music festivals. Performers come from around the globe and play outdoors at some of San Antonio's most charming parks and historic places.
San Antonio’s International Accordion Festival's roots go back almost two centuries. From its beginnings in Germany in the 1820s, the squeeze box spread quickly to San Antonio, South Texas and Northern Mexico.
That it also made its way around the world is clear -- each year, musicians from Argentina to Scotland and Bulgaria to Taiwan appear in the event at La Villita Historic Arts Village. Concerts, most of them free, are on three stages. Enjoy the food, beverage and merchandise booths. Spontaneous dancing is bound to erupt everywhere.

Another historic outdoor space hosts the yearly Jazz’SAlive in Travis Park. The free weekend festival brings together national recording artists as well as regional and local favorites, and is kicked off by Friday night’s Starlight Salute to Jazz’SAlive Gala, held at the adjacent St. Anthony Hotel. The hotel is also the scene of a Champagne Brunch on Sunday, and free After Dark Jam Sessions in its famed Peacock Alley on Saturday and Sunday nights.
Two stages attract crowds that include jazz buffs and families with kids. There are children’s activities from noon to 6 p.m. both days. Bring a blanket, lend an ear, have a blast.

You will want to be ready for this challenging course past many of the city’s historic missions and more. Spurring you and the other 20,000 runners along will be bands at 28 strategically located stages, plus dance teams, pep squads and enthusiastic spectators, making this race into one of the country’s largest, outdoor music festivals.
Other activities include a Health & Fitness Expo at the Alamodome, plus Saturday’s Kids Rock San Antonio non-competitive run through Brackenridge Park for ages K-5. Bring the whole family, stay fit, have fun together.
