I live in San Antonio and tell visitors not to miss Boudro’s, Bistro Vatel, and Andrew Weissman’s new restaurant, Il Sogno. We love going to Francesca’s for sunset at the Westin La Cantera Resort. It’s a beautiful restaurant in a hotel patterned architecturally after the King Ranch. You see an amazing vista to the west over a beautiful golf course set into the hills, and there’s a terrific chef who is among the most imaginative and creative in Texas.
San Antonio is very lucky to have a terrific symphony. My wife and I have a special relationship with the symphony and we support their fundraising activities because of the excellence of the product..
What’s near and dear to my heart about San Antonio is the people, the fact that disparate cultures can live together, work together and be friends together. I love the medical community here and the medical school. And I love everything that is part of being in the wine business. Having the chance to grow grapes and make wine in this part of the world is a rare opportunity.
I like to tell people who are visiting San Antonio that after they’ve seen the River Walk, Alamo and Spanish Missions, come up to the Texas Hill Country. It’s just an hour away and has much to offer--16 wineries in the Fredericksburg area, along with wonderful restaurants and bed and breakfasts.
You shouldn’t miss Luckenbach. It’s a very friendly place with cold beer, people playing guitar, people arriving on motorcycles. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is a monolith of pre-Cambrian granite that rises (425 feet) out of the plain north of Fredericksburg. It’s famous as a sacred place for the Indians. It’s great for hiking and you’ll see beautiful vistas as you climb.
