San Antonio was ranked the strongest U.S. metropolitan economy by BusinessWeek. Rankings were based on job growth, employment, economic growth and home prices. This is the latest of many accolades regarding San Antonio’s economic stamina during the recession.
According to BusinessWeek, San Antonio has one of the strongest job markets in the nation. Construction has also been booming due in part to the upcoming JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, a Caterpillar plant now under construction, as well as school, hospital and military projects. One of the biggest reasons San Antonio has weathered the recession well is the city’s stable housing market. BusinessWeek noted that San Antonio’s home prices grew 3.1% in the second quarter compared with the same period a year earlier.
